Inkfish

$350.00
SOLD

A3 Original • 11.7 x 16.5 inches (29.7 x 42 cm), Ink on Paper

Cephalopods like cuttlefish are sometimes called “inkfish” because of the natural inky defense they use to confuse and evade predators - an obvious draw given this ink rendition. But perhaps the most mesmerizing aspect of cuttlefish is their ability to change their colors, motifs, and even skin texture to better blend in with their environment. So when taking up the challenge of showing these surreal abilities in a white paper void, I realized that their skin seems tessellated, making them effectively amorphous to begin with. So spawned the aesthetic for what became my last, most involved piece of 2020.
