Heron
Acrylic & Ink on Canvas • 100cm x 70cm (39.37” x 39.37”)
My fourth painting is mostly based on the Great Blue Heron, with elements borrowed from the Tricolored Heron and the White Egret.
This work is an experiment in gradients, with green tones running downward through the waves, interlaced with blue tones moving toward the bird’s eye and across its wings, giving to darker reddish tones along the neck plumes, through vibrant orange and yellow in the beak, legs and feet.
While I’ve always sought to make art that might feel somewhat alive, I think this is the first time I’ve managed to depict something truly lifelike.
